Overview
Education is one of the most important pillars of building a tolerant and peaceful society. In the face of growing challenges linked to extremism and violence, schools must go beyond teaching scientific curricula alone. It is essential to adopt peace education curricula, which play a vital role in spreading a culture of peace, enabling students to embrace citizenship, tolerance, and intercultural dialogue, while deepening mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.
The project “Peace Education Path”, implemented in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and supported by the Wasl Fund, laid strong foundations for a society that aspires to live in peace and harmony.
Objectives
- Promoting a Culture of Peace: Spread and reinforce peace values among students through specialized educational curricula.
- Preventing Radicalization: Counter violent extremism by integrating peace education into the formal education system.
- Empowering Students: Equip students with values of citizenship, tolerance, and cross-cultural dialogue.
- Protecting Children and Adolescents: Provide a safe school environment for children at risk of radicalization and violence.
Project Services
- Teacher Training: Capacity-building workshops were held for teachers on peace education methodologies, enabling them to effectively transmit these values to students.
- Peace Laboratories: Selected schools were equipped with “Peace Labs,” including furniture, computers, and interactive tools. These labs provide an engaging environment that encourages dialogue, creativity, and participation.
Outcomes
- Effective Peace Education: Peace curricula were integrated into classroom activities, contributing to a generation more aware of peaceful coexistence.
- Safer School Environments: Peace Labs created safe and inclusive spaces that encourage dialogue, cooperation, and positive student interaction.
- Reduced Risk of Radicalization: By raising awareness and strengthening resilience, the project helped reduce students’ vulnerability to extremist ideologies.
Conclusion
The “Peace Education Path” project is a significant step toward building a more peaceful and stable society. By fostering cooperation between the education system and local communities, the project promotes tolerance, citizenship, and protection for future generations against extremism and violence.
