The Fields of Future project, implemented by Al-Mesalla Organization for Human Resources Development with support from the UEFA Foundation for Children, aims to enhance the well-being and rights of school-aged children by integrating structured sports education into Iraq’s public school system. Operating across eight middle schools in Nineveh and Al Anbar, the project targets students aged 10 to 17—ensuring at least 40% participation by girls—to promote inclusion, physical and mental health, and improved educational engagement.

Al-Mesalla collaborates with the Ministry of Education, local school administrations, and physical education departments to institutionalize regular sports classes, empower teachers with practical training, and foster a culture of teamwork and participation among students. Project activities include school selection, training for teachers, distribution of essential sports equipment, weekly sports practice sessions, and inter-school competitions, culminating in a final tournament and closing ceremony.

Project Objectives:

1. Increase children’s physical activity and well-being through inclusive sports programs.
2. Promote gender equality and student participation in schools through structured, engaging extracurricular activities.
3. Strengthen collaboration between schools, local authorities, and communities in promoting child rights and safe learning environments.

Services provided by the project:

• Capacity building for PE teachers and school staff.

• Provision of age-appropriate sports equipment for eight middle schools.

• Implementation of regular weekly sports classes integrated into school schedules.

• Organization of sports competitions, community engagement events, and awareness on the importance of physical education.

• Monitoring and evaluation visits to ensure safe, inclusive, and impactful delivery.
